Our weekly Teen program is intended to provide a space for young people to deepen their nature connection through weekly gatherings in a small group of peers. This program will offer our core nature connection routines with an added focus on naturalist knowledge, earth-based skills and natural materials.
Our intention is to provide sound mentorship for teens, acknowledging their learning and growth through the dynamic time of adolescence. Working with the land, the seasons, and old stories, we aim to support a path of curiosity, and a feeling of belonging in this place and this time. We aim to support group connection and individual gifts, holding a container for social and emotional learning, and the practice of reciprocity: learning to respect and feel respected.
A weekly class allows us to take on some bigger crafting projects and go deeper into our hard skills. Depending on what the group decides, over the year we hope to get into some of the following projects:
Bow and arrow building
Carving
Flint-knapping (stone tools)
Animal traps
Hide tanning
Bush construction
Ancestral firemaking
Sewing and leatherwork
Tracking and stalking
Mapping and navigation
Plant foods and medicines
Survival
This program will be led by Fianna director, Kes, and core instructor Dani.
We hope you will join us for this rich learning adventure.
